The mayor of San Javier, José Miguel Luengo, accompanied by the Councilor for Culture, David Martínez and the director of the Festival de Jazz, Alberto Nieto, presented the Prize of the XXII Festival Jazz International from San Javier to the American bassist Ron Carter after the memorable concert he gave on the night of Sunday, July 21 in the Almansa Park auditorium of San Javier.
Ron Carter received the Award for being a living legend and a symbol of the best classical tradition, besides being one of the best Double bass players, if not the best, of the whole history of jazz. During almost seven decades of career, this double bass virtuoso has played with most of jazz greats like Eric Dolphy, Don Ellis, Randy Weston, Thelonious Monk, Cannonball Adderley, Art Farmer or Sonny Rollins, among many others.
During the decade of the 60 it was part of the famous quintento of Miles Davis, along with Herbie Hancock, Wayne Shorter and Tony Williams, participating in legendary albums like Quiet Nights (1963) or My Funny Valentine (1965), among others. After this fruitful stage, Carter continued working, based on the record label CTI, in which he recorded as a leader and also as a sideman on records of George Benson, Chet Baker, Antonio Carlos Jobim and many others.
