The original mausoleum of the founding couple of Santiago de la Ribera can already be seen on the facade of the church

Santiago de la Ribera recovers a part of its history with the restoration and public relocation of a funerary sculptural relief of the founding marriage of the town formed by José María Barnuevo and María Teresa Sandoval. The parish priest of Santiago de la Ribera Juan Rosique blessed the sculpture yesterday in an act that had the presence of several generations of the descendants of the family Barnuevo to whom the mayor of San Javier, José Miguel Luengo He thanked the donation to the City Council of the sculpture as well as the Ferris wheel of the Torre Mínguez farm, origin of the town, from where the Barnuevo-Sandoval planned the creation of the town in 1888.
The Funerary sculpture returns next to what was its original location on the facade of the current church of Santiago de la Ribera built on the chapel that the Barnuevo built next to the Casa Hotel, known as Casa Barnuevo, inside which the relatives placed the funeral mausoleum to remember their predecessors. When the new church was built it was replaced by a modern mausoleum designed by the Murcian sculptor Anastasio Martínez and the original was moved to the family home of Torre Mínguez where has been guarded all this time until your donation to the City Council that after its restoration exposes it to the public in the outside of the church as a tribute to the founders of the locality.
