The II Amateur Theater Competition "Francisco Rubio" will be held from 11 to 20 May in Santiago de la Ribera

He Councilor for Culture, David Martinez presented this morning the II Amateur Theater Contest "Francisco Rubio" to be held from May 11 to 20, with the participation of four companies from León, Leganés, Elche and El Algar, and the group of Teatro San Javier that, outside the contest, will close the Contest with the premiere of "Medea", in the version and direction of José Antonio Navas.



David Martinez regretted having to select four of the close to one hundred Companies presented by the high quality of the proposals received from all over Spain. The event, which will be held in theater of the "Prince of Asturias" center, of Santiago de la Ribera in two weekends, will give two prizes in cash, one of 2000 euros to the best work, and another of 800 euros to the best director, as well as four trophies for the best actor and best actress protagonists and of distribution.



He Friday May 11 will begin the Contest with Carafur and the Handrail, of Elche, which will present "Presas", by Verónica Fernández and Ignacio del Moral. The assembly, which has already won several awards, recreates the stories of a group of women who choose a pardon in a post-war Spanish women's prison. Saturday 12 May, Teatro Circo Apolo El Algar will present "El great stingy "signed by Antonio Paso and Joaquín Abati, a funny comedy that puts in solfa the conventionsimages, in reference to the origin of the current International Festival of Theater, Music and Dance, as a contest amateur, and we believe in amateur theater. " Martinez highlighted the Francisco Rubio, who gives his name to the Contest, as director of the theater group "Oscar 69" that 49 years ago was the germ of the current Summer Festival in San Javier that was born with amateur character but soon became a professional.



He jury of the contest will be composed of a representative of Murcia to Scene, another one of the Superior School of Dramatic Art; Javier López, actor and one of the co-founders of the Festival with the group "Oscar 69"; the president of the theater group San Javier, Pepe Brown; the theater director Leonor Benítez, and himself as Councilor for Culture and director of the International Theater Festival, Music and Dance of San Javier.



All The performances will take place at 9:30 p.m. in the theater of center "Prince of Asturias", of Santiago de la Ribera, with free access until full capacity is reached by removing the entry box office before the performance.
